Monitoring instrumentation applies to both underground and open-pit mining operations. It serves not only as a means of monitoring the safety of the mining process but also as a way to optimize the extraction processes and mine design.  Instrumentation systems often include traditional geotechnical sensors (piezometers and extensometers, etc.) along with a variety of environmental sensors, all of which can be connected to hard-wired or wireless data acquisition systems for real-time monitoring.
