Major Infrastructure Project: Montreal Metro Blue Line Extension
GKM Consultants Joins Major Infrastructure Project: Montreal Metro Blue Line Extension
The extension of Montreal’s Blue Line involves the construction of 6 kilometers of tunnel stretching from Saint-Michel station to Anjou. This ambitious project includes underground garages, five new stations, auxiliary structures, and integrated bus terminals.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has awarded the main contract to the MBH Mobility Bleu Horizon Consortium—composed of Pomerleau, EBC, and Spie Batignolles. Following competitive request for proposals, the consortium selected GKM Consultants in December 2024 to lead the geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring (I&M) for the stations, auxiliary structures, and enabling works related to the tunnelling and underground garage.
“Our solution-agnostic approach allows us to respond to client needs without bias, ensuring that selected technologies and products are based solely on performance and compliance with project requirements. Our services span the entire scope—from procurement and project management to drilling coordination, on-site supervision, instrument installation, system commissioning, and real-time data acquisition with online dashboards,” explains Hassan Daoud, Business Development Manager at GKM.
“We are excited to partner with the MBH Consortium on this flagship project,” says Stéphane-Éric Thivierge, President of GKM Consultants. “The success of our approach is rooted in our team’s experience, commitment, and close collaboration with our partners. This project exemplifies the critical role geotechnical monitoring plays in managing urban construction risks and ensuring safety throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.”
